Foe heroics save Man City
Charlton 2-2 Man City
Two late goals by Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe salvaged a stunning draw for Manchester City at Charlton.
After an abject first period, Charlton took what looked to be a decisive lead with strikes from Jason Euell and Claus Jensen.
But a sensational double from Foe stole a point for the visitors right at the death to keep their good run of form going.
Goals had not looked likely after a dire opening, during which a terrible tackle by Euell on Eyal Berkovic had been the pick of the action.
Fresh from back-to-back Premiership wins, both managers had cause for optimism at the start, but Alan Curbishley`s Charlton, in particular, lacked ambition and flair.
Opting for the deep-set defensive formation City boss Kevin Keegan favours away from home, the visitors had marginally the better of things.
Marauding striker Nicolas Anelka looked dangerous and might have done better with a snap shot.
Then midfielder Foe narrowly failed to scramble the ball past Dean Kiely.
It was a full half an hour before Shaun Bartlett carved out the first reasonable chance for the Addicks.
But striker Kevin Lisbie and inspired substitute Jensen turned the game for Charlton in the second half.
Lisbie`s searing pace won a penalty that Euell confidently thumped past Peter Schmeichel within a couple of minutes of resumption.
And ten minutes later, Lisbie laid off to Jensen who calmly slotted past City`s Danish keeper to double the lead.
Charlton`s cushion was soon deflated, however, when Algerian playmaker Ali Bernarbia - Keegan`s own creative substitute - crossed to Foe with almost his first touch.
And Foe turned City hero with a priceless equaliser in the 87th minute.
