Zambia announce CAN squad
Zambia`s coach Roald Poulsen has picked his squad for the African Nations Cup.
It includes all seven professionals he invited to the team`s final training camp.
The team was due to have been announced after a friendly match against Tanzania on Saturday in Lusaka.
But it has been revealed early to allow more time to sort out any potential administrative problems.
Poulsen said picking the team had been very difficult because the local players had competed well with the foreign-based ones.
And he said he was confident Zambia would not be the Group D whipping boys.
"The games will be very tough, but as far as I can see, the mood in camp is high and everybody is eager to play", he said.
Zambia face Egypt and World Cup qualifiers Senegal and Tunisia in the opening phase.
"In football, you never know who wins until you play", said the Dane.
"You can`t win because you have all the statistics in your pocket."
Injury blow
He said Zambia are not scared that their opponent`s have players at some of Europe¿s top clubs.
"We are aware that we are going to play teams with players in top leagues in Europe but everything depends on team work".
Poulsen said that they would employ a 4-4-2 system, but would make changes if necessary.
Zambia are due to head to West Africa on Sunday for friendly matches against Nations Cup hosts Mali on 10 January and four days later against Burkina Faso.
But Zambia`s FA is still desperately short of the money it says it needs to send the team to the tournament.
The squad does not include the experienced Denmark-based striker Mwape Miti, who has a knee injury.
His loss is a major blow to Zambia`s hopes.
