Cameroon clubs struggle to save face
Martin Etonge
It will be an uphill task for all three Cameroon clubs involved in continental games during the 8th finals return leg following their failure to assert themselves in the first leg.
Playing in the Champions league, Canon Yaounde recorded the best result as they forced hosts St. Eloi Lupopo of the DRC to a virgin tie in Kinshasa. Canon will therefore have to make full use of their home advantage in the return leg if they have to win and qualify for the league stage of the competition.
In the CAF Cup, Coton Sport Garoua went down 0-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns South Africa. The defeat is very narrow that fans think it is very possible for Coton Sport to take the return leg. But Coton Sport will need to work extra hard to earn that expected win at home in Garoua.
Playing at home and in the Cup Winners’ Cup, Mount Cameroon Buea saw fire, but managed to draw two all against Ashanti Kotoko from Ghana.
Before the Buea boys could settle in the game, Ashanti Kotoko were up with two goals. First in the 9th minute and then in the 19th minutes.
Mount Cameroon went far into themselves to provide the solution. Skipper Valentine Atem pulled a goal before the half.
When the meagre 4.000 man crowd realised that their team may lose, they brought out the drums and applause, pushing Mount Cameroon to get an equaliser from the penalty spot with less than 8 minutes to go.
The output of Ashanti Kotoko left many fans wondering whether Mount Cameroon will be able to meet the challenge away to eliminate them.
