Senegal go for win
Salif Diao believes Senegal must play for a win against Uruguay even though a draw would be enough to secure second round qualification.
"I think that`s what we must do, just go out there and play to win," Diao told BBC Sport Online ahead of the clash in Suwon, South Korea, on 11 June.
He went on: "You must believe in yourself and play for yourself, not look at what other teams are going to do."
Diao himself had a strange game against Denmark in Senegal`s last outing in Group A.
He gave away a penalty, then scored a memorable goal, before being sent off for a rash challenge.
The giant defensive midfielder says that such see-saw fortunes are what makes football unique.
"I think it`s only in football, in sport, that you can experience such diverse fortunes in such a short space of time."
Diao is suspended for the Uruguay game but knows that a point against the South Americans will take the Lions to the last 16.
"Sometimes when we talk amongst ourselves we remind each other that we could be playing Argentina or England in the second round.
"England and Argentina have a big history in this World Cup, and for us it would be like a present."
Maybe he should have added that it is a present that can only be unwrapped if Senegal get that point on Tuesday.
