J.O 2008 : Olympic Lions Confirm Supremacy

They beat their Botswana counterpart in a low key encounter in Yaounde yesterday.
The Olympic Lions of Cameroon have confirmed their supremacy at the helm of group C after beaten Botswana 1 – 0 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium. Though before the encounter the Olympic Lions had already qualified for the Beijing expedition, they however began the match on a good foot by opening score through Ngal Serge, after a beautiful combination from the midfield. The goal however failed to bring in the much awaited steam despite the Olympic Lions domination at the midfield. The few scoring attempts and beautiful play style instead came from the visitors whose attack was commanded by Kaone Molefe. Due to naivety, the boys of head coach Kenneth Mogae were unable to push the ball onto the back of goalkeeper Joslain Mayebi’s net.
With one goal up, the Olympic Lions came from the dressing room for the second segment of the game with intention of increasing tally, but the excessive individualistic play style of Olle Olle Alain and Chedjou Aurelien frustrated several orchestrated moves by Ewang Elong and defence man Nkoulou Nicolas. Their replacement by Baning Albert and Nganbe Nganbe saw a change especially at the left flank where youngster, Nganbe Nganbe carried out several incursions which were not concretised by team mates visibly less concentrated.
However, though yesterday’s sixth and last day qualifying encounter had no stakes, it enabled the coaches of the team to realised that the squad needs some re-enforcement especially at the midfield and the attack. For this to be done, head coach Ndougou Mpile has to be given the means to start working as the Olympic games are just 133 days away. The Olympics lions have therefore rounded the olympic qualification phase with 14 points from four victories and two draws. During the expedition, they lions scored 14 goals and conceded.
