Horst Koppel might take Lions coaching job
German born coach, Horst Koppel, has confirmed his intention to coach Cameroon after holding talks with a joint delegation of the Cameroon Football Federation(FECAFOOT) and the sports ministry.
In a chat with BBC sports reporters, the 53-year-old, who currently coaches Borussia Dortmund`s Under-23 side, said he hoped to make a decision on the offer by the end of the week.
"I was told to make up my mind quickly," he said.
"For the Federation directors I am their number one choice but I have to make my mind up," he added.
If the contract is finalised, Mr Horst will lead the African football giant nation to the African nations cup in Mali and to the World cup next year.
However Koppel, who would be Cameroon`s third manager this year following Jean-Paul Akono and Pierre Lechantre, admitted it would take a lot to tear him away from Dortmund, where his contract runs till 2003.
"It is an interesting challenge and the money is good," he said.
"But I have very close ties to Dortmund where I have a job for life," he added.
Koppel was also assistant coach to the German side that reached the 1986 World Cup final.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are one of the few African countries without any training plan for the nation cup and world cup.
