The cameroonian team as move to Fujiyoshida (03.06.2002) The indomitable lions of Cameroon were welcomed in a special ceremomy.More than 3000 people came to the ceremony that took place on 02.06.2002 at Fujiyoshida as the lions change their base.
The minister Dr. Bidoung and the chairman of the Fécafoot were also present.Special dresses were done for the lions.

Cameroon reveal 24th squad member (31.05.2002) At a press conference in Nakatsue, Japan the National Team of Cameroon presented their 24th member of their World Cup squad, namely their mascot Camelon. Camelon has come as a result from a FECAFOOT and PUMA competition for young Japanese Manga artists. The goal of the competition was for the students to design the official Cameroon Football Mascot for 2002. Mr. Kenji Tonouchi, a 24-year-old graduate of Tokyo Communication Art School, the winner of the Manga Competition and creator of Camelon was very pleased to hand over the mascot to the Cameroon delegation and wished them the best of luck in the Tournament.

The Lions meet the Press (29.05.2002) On May 29th the Cameroon Team met the press before their departure to Niigata and their first game against Ireland. Representing the Lions was FECAFOOT vice-President Daniel Mayebi, Coach Winfried Schäfer and players Mettomo, Foe and Lauren. Approximately 100 journalists had found their way to the small village of Nakatsue in the south of Japan to meet the team face-to-face and find the latest news before the big clash on June 1st in Niigata. Most of the questions from the media-core concerned the mood of the team and their expectations about Saturday’s game. The Vice-President, Coach and Players all reassured that the Team is in good spirit and are all looking forward to the tournament. At the press conference the Cameroon team also revealed their new mascot, “Camelon”, that will be travelling with the team throughout the tournament and bring them good fortunes (read more about Camelon in the news section).
