Song`s family affair
While there will be connections aplenty on the touchline and the pitch on Saturday, one Charlton newcomer shares a family link with the Hammers.
Loan signing Alexandre Song is the nephew of experienced Cameroon defender Rigobert Song, who spent a year-and-a-half just through the Blackwall Tunnel at Upton Park.
And the midfielder, who is set for a home debut at The Valley this weekend after so impressing two weeks ago at Manchester United, is in regular contact with Uncle Rigobert as he starts to shape a career in the top flight.
The 19-year-old, on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season, said: "I speak to him all the time and always call on him for advice.
"He`s a good person to talk to because of his experience in England and I can ask him anything depending on situations."
Song senior is currently playing for Turkish side Galatasary and is skipper of the national side, having racked up more than 100 appearances.
He played 38 times for Liverpool and his second game in England came at The Valley in February 1999 when Charlton beat the Reds 1-0 thanks to a Keith Jones strike.
The defender left Anfield for West Ham in a £2.5m deal and played 27 times for the Hammers before arriving in Turkey via Germany (Cologne) and France (Lens).
And although the duo are in regular contact, Song, a Cameroon youth international with aspirations on the senior side, says they are very different characters on the field.
He explained: "It`s not easy at times because my uncle is a good player in Africa. Some people say we are the same footballers but we are different.
"He was a good defender but I think I have a little bit more technique."
