Song joins elite group

CAIRO — Cameroon captain Rigobert Song (pictured) joined an elite group of Africans as he reached a personal landmark in his side’s 3-1 African Nations Cup win over Angola.
The 29-year-old long-serving defender joined six other players who have reached 100 caps for their country after his side’s thrashing of Angola in their Group B opener in Cairo.
Song’s international career spans 12 years and he has played at three World Cup finals and has won two African Nations titles after making his debut aged 17 against Mexico in 1993.
Song follows in the footsteps of Egypt’s Ibrahim and Hossam Hassan, Hani Ramzy, Nader El Sayed, Ahmed Hassan and Morocco’s Noureddine Naybet.
The game also saw the first hat-trick of the tournament as Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o plundered all his side’s goals. — AP.
