Webo reveals recipe for success
Ahead of this weekend`s game with surprise package Getafe, Osasuna`s Achille Webo told Eurosport.com that the secret to the Pampalona club`s success so far this season is simple - team work. Osasuna go into Saturday`s game two points clear at the top of La Liga, and seven points ahead of Getafe.
The Cameroon striker told Eurosport.com at the Cameroon training camp earlier in the week that he likes to think that there are no stars at Osasuna, but simply a mix of hard working players who give their all for the good of the team.
"The secret is team work. We don`t have a special player, a player who can win us a game like Barça and Real Madrid have," he said.
"We try to work as a team and give the best of ourselves and the results have come like that."
An integral part of Osasuna`s success this season has been the development of Webo`s strike partnership with Savo Milosevic.
"We`ve been together for two years, we know each other well and Savo, you know the quality that he has. He`s got a lot of experience. He`s played in the big leagues, big teams.
"A young player like me, what I can try to do is try to listen to him, try to give of myself by working, trying to be there when he wants to tell me something and listening to him," Webo added.
Asked if Osasuna`s league standing, two points ahead of nearest rivals Barcelona, and three ahead of Real, is a real indicator of their quality, Webo`s answer was emphatic.
"No, it`s not a false position," he stated. "We are first, no-one has given us an easy ride, we`ve earned all those points. Even we know that it`s not our objective - we want 43 points to keep ourselves up.
"For the moment, mathematically, we don`t have them, so we have to keep working and when we do have them then we can think about something else.
And when those points are in the bag, and Liga safety is secured, perhaps a Champions League place? Webo remained coy on the subject.
"For the moment, we want the 43 points to keep our top-flight status and then after that we`ll see what happens. That`s what we want, nothing more.
Another surprise package this season will be Osasuna`s opponents at the weekend. Getafe even led the League before the resurgence of Real and Barcelona toppled them off their perch. They currently lie in eighth, but Webo acknowledges that they will be a tough proposition in their own stadium.
"They`re a good team," he said. "They`ve shown at home that they play well, hard games, good games. They`ve got players who can destabilise opponents.
"At home they`re very tough to beat," he continued. "But we know that we`ve also got a good squad and as Osasuna has shown in all their away games, we`ll try to play a good game, even win the match and that our supporters continue enjoying themselves as they are doing now."
