Congolese Lions change coaches again
JOHANNESBURG,
The Democratic Republic of Congo have sacked coach Mulamba Mukeba as they begin preparing for the 2002 African Nations Cup in Mali.
Sports minister Moleka Nzulama told reporters in Kinshasa that Mukeba, who took over Simba (The Lions) only four months ago, would be replaced by Louis Watunda.
He is the fourth DR Congo coach this year after Adelard Mayanga, Russian Yuri Gavrilov and Mukeba, who guided TP Mazembe from the southern city of Lubumbashi to the national title last year.
Medard Lusadisu, technical director DR Congo at the last three editions of the biennial African football showcase, has been appointed to the post once more.
Winners of the Nations Cup in 1968 and 1974, the year they also became the first sub-Saharan African country to play at the World Cup, DR Congo were this month ranked 15th in Africa and 71st in the world.
