Geremi named as a top player

NEWCASTLE United midfielder Geremi has earned a place alongside Premier League top guns Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba in the Actim Index team of the week following a sparkling display against Fulham.
Geremi laid on both goals for United as Mark Viduka and Michael Owen paved the way for victory against the Cottagers.
The Cameroon international lost his place in the Newcastle starting XI under former boss Sam Allardyce, who also stripped him of the captaincy just months after appointing him as United’s leader during the summer.
But while Geremi fell even further down the pecking order at St James’s Park after heading away on international duty at the African Cup of Nations with eventual finalists Cameroon, he returned to Tyneside a somewhat revitalised figure.
The player also found out during his time in Ghana that Allardyce had lost his job, with Kevin Keegan firmly in place by the time he returned.
And after KK was as good as his word in terms of giving him his chance, Geremi repaid him with some solid performances, especially in the last two games.
And his impressive display in United’s 2-0 home win over Fulham earned him a place in the team of the week, according to the official players’ rating system.
The Cameroon international posted a season’s-best 36 points as manager Keegan earned his first win since returning to St James’ Park, assisting in Viduka’s opening goal.
Geremi also produced 15 passes, two dribbles and eight crosses as he moved up 37 places to 184th in the Index with 174 points.
The Magpies, six points clear of the relegation zone, have one player in the top 100 – defender Steven Taylor, who is 92nd with 262 points.

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution, be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team, with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.
