Lions Unruffled
Tranquillity reigns in the Lions’ camp as players rehearse for Sunday’s match.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon round up training today for Sunday’s crucial match against the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire. The team, which has been camping in Saint Quentin, France, since Sunday, is expected to leave Paris tomorrow for Abidjan where they will face the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire next Sunday in one of the day nine matches of Group Three in the on going qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup / African Cup of Nations.
Reports from Saint Quentin hold that the Lions have been of exemplary conduct during the training camp. Discipline has been the watch word; wherefore the wealth of work achieved during the two daily training sessions which they have been having since Monday. Yesterday however, the players spent the afternoon relaxing. It was the only opportunity which they had to get in contact with the public.
In a press briefing after the morning training yesterday, the players, technical staff and officials of the Cameroon Football Federation, reassured their fans of their readiness for Sunday’s encounter. From all indications, the Lions, who are presently two point behind the Elephants are set to turn the tides by grabbing the three precious points which are at stake in Abidjan. This will enable Cameroon to continue nurturing hopes of qualifying for their fifth consecutive World Cup finals appearance in Germany 2006. Yesterday morning, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Philippe Mbarga Mboa, was present at the training session to see for himself the quality of work put in by the technical staff.
Health wise, there is nothing to write home about. Prof. Atchou medical doctor of the squad says the boys are kicking. Present to boost the morale of the players are Patrick Mboma, the mediator, Yannick Noah, the adviser.
