Eto`o dangles cash bait for Lions
By Martin Etonge
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto`o has offered a financial reward to each of his international team-mates in a bid to reach next year`s World Cup finals.
Cameroon are two points behind Group Three leaders Ivory Coast and the reward is an incentive to ensure a win over the Ivorians in Abidjan on sunday.
Eto`o, who also included the coaching staff in his US$2,000 offer, announced the cash reward during a meeting with Cameroon football authorities at their training camp in France.
This is the first time a Cameroonian player has offered money to his team-mates to win a game he`s also playing in.
The Barcelona striker, who finished second top scorer in Spain`s la Liga last season, has also promised Cameroonians victory over Ivory Coast.
Kalla returns
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon must win the game in Abidjan to top the group and ensure they make their fifth consecutive World Cup finals appearance in Germany 2006.
Cameroon are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations, with veteran defender Raymond Kalla being recalled to the side.
Kalla, 30, joined the team at their Novotel Saint Quentin camp near Paris after the Cameroonian sport minister Mbarga Mboa insisted that coach Artur Jorge include him in the team.
Mbarga Mboa however insisted that it would be the coach`s final decision on what role Kalla will play in Sunday`s qualifier.
Kalla resigned from the squad in 2002 after a disappointing World Cup campaign in Japan and South Korea where Cameroon went out in the first round.
