Interpools 2002 : Tussle For Leadership
PWD, Botafogo, Dynamo and Aigle neck-to-neck in Douala pool while Caïman, Fédéral and Renaissance distinguish themselves in Yaounde.
As we look forward to tomorrow when the 4th playing day in the ongoing Interpools tournament will go afoot, the first four teams in the Douala pool are tight on six points each. In Yaounde (pool B), three clubs are separated from one another by the breath of the hair. The reading of the barometer will be clear in the Douala pool when Botafogo- Dynamo encounter will be played tomorrow. In yet another decisive encounter, PWD and Aigle will answer the who is who question at the end of full time in the third game slated for the Douala Omnisports stadium. This day will be opened by somewhat the underdogs of the Douala pool in the match pitting Sahel against Etoile. Olympic whose no point exit from the competition is a foregone conclusion since the third playing day will be on standby. In Yaounde, the 4th playing day billed for Thursday will determine the qualification chances for both Renaissance and Caïman. For the moment, Caïman is topping the league table with seven points. They are followed by Fédéral Foumban on six points. Renaissance is just a point adrift Fédéral and a victory on Thursday is likely to put any of the teams on a comfortable position. The pushovers of the Yaounde pool for now are OPEP, Colombe and Prisons who each count one point. CSPM Messamena having three points poses to be no long distance goer after losing two of its three matches. This representative of the East Province will be on standby during the 4th playing day. The Douala pool seems to be more competitive than that of Yaounde. In terms of points, the first two teams, PWD and Botafogo count six points after two straight wins. Similarly, Dynamo and Aigle have six points each in three games played. The chances are higher for PWD and Botafogo to pick up qualification tickets given their winning spirit and the more games they have in hand than rivals; Aigle and Dynamo. How well PWD and Botafogo will manage the stakes will determine whether they will write their names in the elite football championship next year or not. Prisons is the wanting team from the West of the Moungo whose Interpools expedition seems foiled by early defeat that has defected the club. Can they garner the fallen pieces? Not by a stroke of magic!
