Franck Queudrue and Alan Smith were both sent off as Middlesbrough and Leeds drew 2-2 at The Riverside Stadium.
Smith was given his marching orders for a second yellow card deep into the second half, while Queudrue saw red on the stroke of full-time.
The Whites had earlier opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 11 minutes through Mark Viduka, before Joseph-Desire Job put the home side back on level terms.
Leeds re-established their lead on 56 minutes, Lee Bowyer on hand when Harry Kewell`s shot proved too hot to handle for Mark Schwarzer.
But Gareth Southgate ensured it finished honours even as he finished from close range seven minutes from the end.
Middlesbrough started the brighter and went close early on, Southgate shooting over after Leeds failed to clear their lines from a Boro corner.
However, Leeds went close to an opener of their own minutes later, Kewell`s driven effort forcing Mark Schwarzer into the save.
And it was the Whites who took the lead when they were awarded a penalty for an Ugo Ehiogu challenge on Viduka. The Australian stood up to take the spot-kick, slamming the ball past Schwarzer.
Boro pushed forward looking for an equaliser and were back on level terms when Job fired past Paul Robinson after meeting Geremi`s cross from the right.
The home side twice went close to a second moments later, Robinson saving from Geremi and Job heading just wide of the target.
With the second half just minutes old Job tested Robinson with a flicked header, but it was Leeds who once more went ahead.
Bowyer reacted quickly to put the ball into the back of the net after Schwarzer failed to hold on to Kewell`s shot.
Viduka went close to extending Leeds` lead soon after, the Australian drawing a top-class save out of Schwarzer with a close-range header.
It was not all Leeds, however, the impressive Geremi rattling the woodwork with a well-struck free-kick.
As full-time approached Leeds were reduced to 10 men when Smith was dismissed.
And Boro made their numerical advantage tell when they equalised again, Southgate converting after Geremi pulled the ball back from the by-line.
