Cameroon boss awaits future decision
Cameroon football federation boss Mohammed Iya has pleaded for time to decide on the future of the technical staff of the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon disappointed their fans with early elimination from the World Cup after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Germany in Group E.
The elimination has led to speculation in the local media that coach Winfried Schaefer will be sacked when officials of the federation and sports minister Bidoung Mkpatt meet with him in Paris next week.
But the president said: "We will need time for consultations. We need to examine this defeat before taking a decision."
The German coach, who steered the Lions to their second African Nations Cup success in February, said he would wish to continue in the job, but Cameroon`s football tradition does not seem to favour his chances.
Despite leading the team to an historic quarter-final appearance in 1990, Russian coach Valeri Nepomniaski was shown the door.
Henri Michel and Claude Leroy suffered similar fates after dismal World Cup outings in 1994 and 1998. Olympic gold medal-winner Jean Paul Akono, as well as Nations Cup 2000 winning coach Pierre Lechantre, were both sacked last year.
