Qualification Still Possible for Lions
Fred VUBEM
With only one point in two matches, the Indomitable Lions can still make it to South African in case of victory in their remaining games.
Though having recorded only one point in two matches, all is not yet lost for the Indomitable Lions as they may still qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. However, one must admit the task has been made more difficult and complicated by the draw pulled with Morocco.
Cameroon still has its destiny in its hands and can still qualify for the World Cup in case of victory in the remaining four matches. In case of such a scenario, Cameroon will grab all the 12 points at play and no matter the outcome of the other encounters, will thereby top the group with 13 points. The second team will therefore follow with a maximum of 12 points. For if Cameroon were to beat Gabon on away and return leg matches and Gabon secures victory in the other two matches with Togo and Morocco, they will have six points added to the six they currently have to obtain 12 points. Same for Togo, who in case of victory in the other three matches, will grab nine points, added to the three the presently have, will make 12 points also. In such a mathematical set up, Morocco will be the last with the possibility of obtaining a maximum of 10 points.
However, as earlier said, qualification now depends on the fact that Indomitable Lions win all their remaining encounters even by a one goal margin. A draw anywhere along the line will mean the end of the road for the Indomitable Lions as they will no longer have their fate in their hands. It will therefore take extreme luck or a miracle for Cameroon to make to South Africa 2010.
