They grab their ticket after eliminating Burundi on a 2 – 0 aggregate score.
The Junior Lions of Cameroon have qualified for the second and last round eliminatory of the 16th African Youth Championship after beating Burundi 1- 0 in Bujumbura. During the away leg played in Yaounde, the Junior Lions edged their Burundian counterpart on identical score. Last Saturday’s victory can be attributed to major changes made in the squad by head coach, Alain Wabo, after a below-par performance a fortnight ago.
Though the Junior Lions have moved to the next round on a 2 – 0 aggregate score, they need to start preparing for the last round qualifiers if they wish to grab a final phase ticket. For this to be a reality, head coach Alain Wabo who has been at the helm of the team since October 2007, does not only need to instil discipline and rigour among the players, but must be given a free hand and financial means to do his job in time. The Junior Lions for their final round qualifiers will be meeting the winner of the return leg match pitting RDC Congo to Congo Brazaville.
It should be noted that the African youth tournament is a three-round of two legged matches. The final phase of the African youth football jamboree will kick-start on January 18, and end on February 1, 2009. A total of eight teams including host country Rwanda are expected to take part in the final phase of the competition which will be divided into two pools of four teams each.
