Schafer optimistic after draw
Cameroon coach Winfried Schafer said he was impressed with his team after their 2-2 draw with England - and believes they can make a real impact once the tournament starts.
"I am very happy with the performance of the team," he said after the friendly international in Kobe.
Cameroon twice went a goal up in the match, first through Samuel Eto`o and then, after Dariuz Vassell`s equaliser, through a stunning free-kick from Geremi.
England only salvaged a draw in the last minute through Robbie Fowler.
Schafer said the result was particularly impressive given the travel problems the team had experienced in getting to Japan.
"At the African Nations Cup we spent a lot of the time on the ground in Africa. Here we have spent a lot of time in the air.
"But that`s normal for us."
And he added that the teamwork ethic that has been instilled in the Indomitable Lions meant they could look forward to a good World Cup.
"We can do really good things with this team. They really stick together and they really have the same heart."
Schafer went so far as to compare his team to the legendary side that reached the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
"The 1990 team was a legend. These players can walk in the footprints of the 1990 team."Hits: 1 | Source:Allafrica
