Lone Star Sacks Debbah for `Indiscipline`
Liberia`s celebrated striker, James "Miracle Man"Debbah has finally been dropped from the Lone Star Soccer squad scheduled to participate in the Mali 2002 African Nations Cup.
According to Liberia Football Association President Edwin Snowe, Debbah was dropped because for "Indiscipline".
Snowe said Debbah failed to report to Star`s camp at Bingerville for training after he had met President Charles Taylor Friday morning.
During the meeting, President Taylor was reported to have given Debbah an ultimatum to return to camp before the end of the day or risk being dropped for Mali roll call.
Debbah`s failure to leave Monrovia for Bingerville, La Cote d`Ivoire apparently led to his sacking. The dashing striker had earlier threatened to boycott camp unless he was paid his training per diem before leaving for Bingerville.
Meanwhile, ,James Debbah says his sacking is a "surprise." He said it is true that he met with President Taylor yesterday, and agreed to report for training.
"The chief patron (President Taylor) and I finalizedeverything in the presence of Snowe and I agreed to go on camp," Debbah averred today in Monrovia, although he did not reveal what he and the president discussed.
Debbah said, to his utmost surprise someone called him up late yesterday and said he had been dropped from the team. He said sources had hinted that he was dropped from the team because of his recent interview with the Voice of America in which he requested the FA torelease his per diem before leaving for Bingerville.
