French first division reports
PARIS,
- Reports of French first division soccer matches played on Saturday:
RENNES 1 PARIS ST GERMAIN 2
Paris St Germain`s Brazilian strikers powered the capital club to victory at Stade Rennes and lifted them to third place in the standings.
Ronaldinho put the visitors ahead in the 20th minute, looping a free-kick over stunned Rennes keeper Eric Durand. Fourteenth-placed Rennes fought back hard but were denied by PSG keeper Lionel Letizi before Brazilian Alex streaked past the Rennes defence to blast a second goal past Durand in first half injury-time.
PSG thought they had made it three just seconds after the break but Jose Aloisio was judged to have fouled Durand as he netted and the strike was disallowed.
Rennes were finally rewarded in the 72nd minute when midfielder Christophe Le Roux headed home a free-kick from newcomer Laurent Batlles.
OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE 2 BASTIA 2
Olympique Marseille went ahead in the fifth minute with a debut goal from Spanish newcomer Alfonso Perez.
The southerners` second new purchase Alberto Rivera stretched their lead, blasting the ball into an empty goal in the 33rd minute -- his first goal for the club.
Bastia`s Nicolas Dieuze caught Marseille keeper Vedran Runje off guard, putting the Corsicans back in the game with a surprise header in the 53rd minute.
Midfielder Mickael Essien equalised in the 69th minute, sending a powerful strike past Runje.
MONACO 1 LORIENT 0
Back on track after a sluggish start to the season, Monaco edged a narrow win over struggling Lorient, on-form midfielder Marcelo Gallardo grabbing the winner in the 74th minute.
NANTES 2 EN AVANT GUINGAMP 0
Last year`s champions wriggled away from the relegation zone with a comfortable win over fellow strugglers En Avant Guingamp.
Romanian international Viorel Moldovan put Nantes ahead in the 64th minute, heading home a cross from Stephane Ziani.
Defender Sylvain Armand evaded the Guingamp defence to seal the victory in the 81st minute.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute when Nicolas Laspalles for Nantes and Blaise Louassi for Guingamp were handed red cards.
SOCHAUX 0 MONTPELLIER 1
Montpellier clinched their fourth consecutive win thanks to midfielder Cedric Barbosa`s 17th-minute strike.
The southerners managed to hold their lead even though two red cards within a minute reduced them to nine men, Guillaume Moullec and Aliou Cisse getting their marching orders.
