"Senegalese venture is officially over", admits Bruno Metsu
Two weeks after appointing him as the new manager of United Arab Emirates league champions Al-Ain, Frenchman Bruno Metsu revealed "the memorable adventure with Senegal has officially ended," talking to press media here in capital Abu Dhabi.
Al-Ain, who made everything possible just to have negotiations with former 2002 World Cup Senegal manager ending on a successful note, unveiled the price tag of the 10-month contract, $550,000, as officially announced by the executive committee president Mohamed Al-Rumaythi.
"Leading talks in a secret manner has ultimately ensured us the services of a celebrated international manager in the shape of Frenchman Bruno Metsu," added Mr. Al-Rumaythi.
"Now that the club is kick-starting the new season on firm financial basis, we are looking forward to positive results in domestic and continental challenges."
Asked about what to expect at club level, Metsu has this to say: "It would be safe stating that the Senegalese adventure has ended. From now on, and for 10 months, I will be focusing on how to foster the ambitions and aspirations of Al-Ain, a club having put full faith in my own capabilities.
"The Asian Champions League will be surely our prime target," Metsu went on saying. "However, we will make sure the club will retain the league title next season.
"I am all out to bring about a new professional discipline within the squad despite comprising amateur players. This won`t be a hurdle for all of us, taking into consideration the full backing and support I have already been provided by the club administration," concluded the manager.
