AFCON 2017 Qualifiers: Indomitable Lions beat Gambia 2-0 in LimbeCameroon´s national football team has recorded a comfortable victory over the Gambia national selection in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match at the Limbe Omnisport stadium in the South West Region.
It was a major victory for the national team recorded its first stainless win in an international match played in Limbe. Cameroon scored a goal at each half of the encounter after squandering several scoring opportunities.
Both teams began the match with vigour, but the more determined and organised Cameroonian side forced their way into the Gambian vital zone. At the 32nd minute two defenders pulled down Indomitable Lions captain of the match, Banjamin Moukanjo within the 18 meters box and the referee signalled a penalty.
The captured transformed the penalty into a goal with a powerful shut that sent the waves of joy and frenzy amongst fans that had turned out in large numbers to the stadium.
Motivated by the gaol the Indomitable Lions multiplied their offensives against the Gambia defence that resisted till the end of the first half.
Barely two minutes into the second half, the Cameroonian forward was again crushed down in the 18 meter box, the central referee signal a penalty but the lines man indicated a corner kick.
The lions continued mounting pressure till the 52nd minute when a well taken corner kick meet a Cameroonian header that netted a scored goal for the lions. The enthusiasm amongst the lions increased as well as their test for more gaols. At the 57th minute the Gambia keeper saved a corner kick that would have worsened score.
Two minutes later, an Indomitable Lions attacker beat their entire defence and came face to face with the goal keeper but could not conclude the action with tact.
The cross bar deviated a free back that would have aggravated score at the 67th minute. The game continued with varied moves that did not bare fruits till the central referee sounded his whistle signalling the end of the encounter that Cameroon had won by two goals to zero against Gambia.
