Indomitable Lions regain first position
Though they lost six places on the FIFA rankings for the month of February, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions stand first in Africa on 17th position.
For the first time in several months, Cameroon dethroned the Super eagles of Nigeria who surprisingly lost 27 places to stand 36th. Cameroon are returning to enjoy top spot in Africa once more, proof of their clean sheet after the failure in the 2006 African Cup of Nations finals.
Egypt and Tunisia recorded huge falls on the rankings. While Egypt crashed 27 places and now stand 42nd, Tunisia fell down 13 places to be 45th.
However, Ghana and South Africa made some Improvements. Ghana gained 6 places to stand 22nd, while South Africa climbed 10 places to be 59th.
Globally, the biggest news was the end of Brazil’s dominance of the month rankings. Following a successful year for the 2006 FIFA World Cup winners, Italy have managed to topple Brazil and reclaim the top spot for the first time since November 1993, ending Brazil’s remarkable 55-month run at the top of the leader board.
There is otherwise no change in the top 5: Brazil are followed by Argentina, France and Germany. Spain return to the top ten for the first time since October last year (10th, up 2).
