Bidoung Mpkatt unites Cameroonian delegations, calls rowdy fans to order
The minister of youth and sports, Pierre Bidoung Mpkatt has held a meeting in Sikasso to unite the four
official delegations to Mali and call rowdy fans to
order In Tuesday`s meeting.
The minister told the
FECAFOOT, ministry of culture, ministry of
communication and youth and sports delegations that
there was no difference among them because "we all
have the same purpose and objectives", that of
defending Cameroon and helping the Indomitable Lions
win CAN 2002.
Each group presented its programme of work. The
culture group talked of the different animation
schedules in Bamako and Sikasso, journalists exposed
their communication plans, while the ministry of youth
and sports talked on the management of the Lions. A
plan on how journalists could have access to the Lions
was arranged.
Bidoung Mpkatt announced that there would be regular
co-ordination meetings and called on Cameroonians to
guard against sordid behaviour.
"We should have responsible behaviour. Not behave in
a way that could disturb the players because our
comportment is a determinant factor in the performance
and success of the Lions", Bidoung Mpkatt instructed.
The minister emphasised the need for solidarity:
"Each of us has the same role, rights and duties.
There should be tolerance as we complement the efforts
of others in order to leave a positive impression to
Malians".
Bidoung Mpkatt was disappointed with Cameroon fans
from Mali and the neighbouring countries because a
meeting with them ended in a bitter exchange of words.
In the confusion of that meeting some of the fans
stole the glasses of Roger Milla, the mobile phone of
Iya Mohammed and the wallet of a PUMA agent. Earlier
in Bamako they duped the minister of an undisclosed
amount of support funds provided to them.
Bidoung Mpkatt remarked that such behaviour was
dangerous. As the minister said he was afraid such
fans could easily start a fight against the Ivorian
fans who had already demonstrated their
aggressiveness. In their Monday game against Togo the
violent fans fought amongst themselves and assaulted
local security officials, their star musician Meiway
and minister for sports who attempted to calm them.
They even threw objects on the pitch. For this CAF has
sanctioned the Ivorian football federation.
