Algeria announce weak squad for Egypt clash
Algeria have included just
three of their sizeable contingent of foreign-based players in
their final squad selection for Saturday`s World Cup qualifier
against Egypt, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The squad has been cut down to 22 players for Algeria`s last
match of the qualifiers, with veteran striker Abdelhafid
Tasfaout and the Troyes pair of Farid Ghazi and Rafik Saifi the
only Europe-based professionals chosen for the encounter in
Annaba.
The match is of academic interest only for Algeria, who are
fourth in the group C standings, but Egypt must win against
their bitter rivals to stand any chance of qualifying for Japan
and South Korea next year.
Saturday`s match is also the last in charge for the coaching
partnership of Abdelhamid Kermali and Hamid Zouba, who are to be
replaced by former African Footballer of the Year Rabah Madjer
next month.
