Argentina-Cameroon date set
Argentina`s soccer association has confirmed that the national team will meet Cameroon on March 27 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The news comes two days after coach Marcelo Bielsa picked the foreign players he wanted in his squad for the game against fellow World Cup participant Cameroon.
Argentina soccer association (AFA) chief Julio Grondona confirmed on Wednesday that his organisation originally hoped the match would take place in Marseille on March 27.
However, that proved impossible because it is the same day that France host Scotland in a friendly in Paris, and the television company that has the rights to that game did not want the two matches to clash.
That left Spain and Italy as options but Grondona said they were both ruled out because no location would have given Bielsa enough time to train together with his squad.
As a result, Argentina and Cameroon settled on Geneva, with the match kicking off at 7pm Swiss time (6pm GMT).
Meanwhile, in separate news concerning the national team, Argentine lawmakers passed a bill late Wednesday that obliges the companies that own the local rights for the World Cup games to show the most important matches live to the whole country.
The bill establishes that all matches from the second round onwards be shown live, as well as the "important" first round games, including Argentina`s encounters.
The news will obviously go down very well among Argentines, who needed cable television to see a number of the qualifying matches for the World Cup.
However, it is thought the TV companies that own the rights might challenge the decision.
