Eto`o gunning for award
PA Sport
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto`o has admitted he wants to "shoot every time I have the ball" against Villarreal on Sunday as he targets the Pichichi top goalscorer award.
Eto`o has been inspirational up front for the Blaugrana this season and his header to secure a 1-1 draw at Levante last week sealed Barca`s first league title for six years.
It also took his season`s tally to 24 as he turns his attentions to personal awards.
Barca captain Carles Puyol will lift the Primera Liga trophy before the match this weekend and Eto`o`s team-mates have also vowed to help the Cameroon international - who has even been practising free-kicks in training - achieve his goal.
"I want to shoot every time I have the ball," said Eto`o, who leads Real Betis` Ricardo Oliveira by three goals in the Pichichi race.
The striker is only one goal behind Arsenal forward Thierry Henry in the European Golden Boot and with two games left, is also confident of taking that award with the English Premiership season having already finished.
"If I can reach that mark on Sunday in front of our fans, then even better, and if I can score three instead of two then that would be great too," said the player reportedly being targeted by Chelsea.
"There are two games left and I need to go all out. Anyway, I know that everyone will be watching to see if I score and reach my targets.
"I know the most important thing is to win the game," he insisted. "We have to continue playing as we have been and we must not stop winning or adding points.
"We still have six points to win before the end of the season and we have to keep going and win all of them," he told the club`s website fcbarcelona.com.
Goalkeeper Victor Valdes is also in line for an award - the goalkeeper`s Zamora Trophy, awarded to the keeper with most clean sheets - and the team will also look to help the young custodian add to his haul of silverware this campaign.
"For us they will be like collective victories," said Mexican defender-cum-midfielder Rafael Marquez. "We will look for Eto`o with every chance that we create."
Captain Puyol, meanwhile, said: "It (the Pichichi) is important for the whole team and would be even better if he won the Golden Boot."
"The stadium will be full and it will be a huge party and we need to compete and continue winning. At Barca we are duty bound to always go out and play well and fight to win. Our honour is at stake."
