Senegal stars delighted
El Hadji Diouf and Ferdinand Coly have spoken of their "delight" at being shortlisted for African Player of the Year award.
The Senegalese stars, both of whom play at French club Lens, learnt of their nomination from BBC Sport Online correspondent James Copnall in South Korea.
The pair had just helped the Lions to a 1-0 win over the World Cup co-hosts in a friendly match in Jeonju on Thursday.
Diouf has been installed as one of the favourites to succeed Cameroon`s Patrick Mboma as the holder of Africa`s top indiviadual award.
"I would really like to win this award," the peroxide blond striker told BBC Sport Online.
He went on: "I`m very motivated since no Senegalese player has ever won it, not even (current assistant coach) Jules Bocande when he was top scorer in the French league in 1986."
Coly was less confident of his chances of winning and stressed the importance of not getting to ecixted about individual accomplishments.
"It`s very good to be nominated, but the most important thing is the team. It is good for Senegalese football that we have been nominated."
Despite his own nomination, Coly believes there is only one candidate worthy of being crowned Africa`s best.
"Many players in Africa are good but I would vote for Diouf because he scored many times in our World Cup qualifying campaign."
Africa`s top player will be revealed by Caf on 30 November.
