Spanish strugglers move for Suffo
Cameroon striker Patrick Suffo appears to be on his way to Spain to aid Numancia`s fight against relegation to Division Three.
The 24-year-old Sheffield United hard man was transfer-listed by Blades boss Neil Warnock after being sent off for a head-butt on West Brom`s Derek McInnes in the infamous abandoned First Division game dubbed the `Battle of Bramall Lane` last month.
Reports in Soria, the home of Numancia in central eastern Spain, indicate that Suffo, an Olympic gold medallist at Sydney in 2000 and an African Nations Cup winner earlier this year, will sign today and play in the relegation battle with Extremadura on Sunday.
Numancia are just one point and two places away from the drop zone in the Spanish Second Division after being relegated from the top flight less than 12 months ago. They need cover for Romanian Constantin Barbu, formerly of Dinamo Bucharest, who has sustained a bad injury.
The fact that Suffo`s international team-mate Daniel Ngom Komé is at Numancia may have had a bearing on the deal.
The deal will probably be a loan until the end of the season to help Numancia avoid relegation as Warnock is thought to want to hold onto Suffo until after the World Cup in the hope of his value on the transfer market increasing with worldwide exposure in Japan and Korea.
