Okpomo returns to head Nigerian football federation
LAGOS,
Patrick Okpomo has been reappointed secretary general of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) a decade after he lost the job, an official announced on Thursday.
"Okpomo will take over the NFA on Wednesday. He will be in charge for an interim period of three months after which the post will be advertised," said Victor Iroele, sports ministry spokesman.
Okpomo, a FIFA instuctor, was fired in 1989 following the discovery of discrepancies in the ages of several Nigerian internationals.
Nigeria was subsequently banned by FIFA from all age-group competitions for two years.
Tijjani Yusuf was on Monday fired as secretary general of the NFA over reported financial malpractices.
Yusuf`s dismissal had been long expected as part of a major reorganisation of the NFA following the discovery of financial malpractices and fraud.
