Cup of Cameroon : Seven Quarter Finalists Already…
The last team for the prestigious group of eight would be known after the Impôts FC versus Espérance match of next Wednesday.
Acadasport of Limbe, Bamboutos of Mbouda, Union Sportive of Douala, Bandja FC, Sable of Batie, Fovu of Baham and Coton Sport of Garoua have qualified for the quarter finals of the Cup of Cameroon in football. The seven teams picked up their qualification yesterday after return leg matches of the 8th finals of the Cup played in various stadiums nation-wide.
After heavy victories for Union and Coton Sports in the away matches (Coton vs Douala Athletic 6 -0 and Union Vs Mbalmayo FC 5 — 0); both teams put in minimum energy yesterday to sail through. A virgin draw against FC Mbalmayo at the Mbalmayo Municipal Stadium was enough to see Union into the quarter finals. Coton Sport was also propelled to the round of eight after a one all tie against Douala Athletic Club at the reunification stadium in Douala.
Even though Acadasport of Limbe failed to outplay Kadji Sports Academy on home soil (drew 1 — 1 at the Limbe Municipal stadium yesterday), the 2 — 1 victory in the away match enabled the Limbe boys to enter the prestigious group of eight. In Mbouda, Bamboutos FC made use of home advantage to walk over Sahel Maroua, 2 — 0. Both teams had separated on a virgin tie in the away match. Meanwhile, Bandja FC emerged stronger as it outplayed Mount Cameroon on identical scores (1 — 0) during the home and away matches.
The road to glory for FC International Lion Ngoma was cut short by Sable of Batie’s one goal in the away match. The most powerful of the West couldn’t snatch a victory in the home and away matches but sailed through thanks to the lone gaol which they scored in the away match. In a West provincial derby yesterday, Fovu of Baham stopped the Royal Eagles of Menoua with a 2 — 1 victory after also outplaying Aigle 1 — 0 in the away match.
The group of eight would be complete next Wednesday when the last scene of the round of 16 takes place at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde. Impôts FC faces Espérance in an open encounter. Both teams can rightfully still hope of reaching the quarter finals. During the away match, Espérance outplayed Impôts by a narrow victory, 1 — 0.
