Interpool: Row Over Players
Matches of the fourth playing day in Pool B take place today amidst a protest by Union Douala.
The last but one playing day in the ongoing Interpools in Pool B will take place today in Buea amidst growing discontent in some delegations. After the third playing day, Union of Douala filed a protest against Union Abong Mbang for "fielding six irregular players" for its match last Saturday. Members of the local homologation committee in Buea, said Union Douala’s protest was considered unfounded. The Committee argues that the list of all players was published in good time and any objection should have been raised before the first match of Interpools. No such protest was raised one week after the list of Interpool players was published through Internet and club emails. The Committee’s decision to dismiss Union Douala’s case is backed by article 3 (line 4) of Interpool 2005 regulations.
Eric Ngaha, Union Douala’s Chief Scribe, argued that the suspected players had played in various clubs in the Centre Provincial Division two championship. Said he, "our case is that of cheating and fraud on the identity of players as per the same article used by the homologation Committee". After refuting the allegations Union Douala has coughed out CFA 500,000 to appeal at the highest FECAFOOT level in Yaounde. The Coordinator and National Vice President of FECAFOOT, Prince Ndoki Mukete told Cameroon Tribune Monday that the file has been transmitted.
Union Abong Mbang’s Assistant Coach, Beyem Mauger, whom Union Douala’s Ngaha accused of being the brain behind the illegal transfer of four of the six suspected players from A S Mvele of Yaounde told Cameroon Tribune that no player is born to play only in one team. The issue is; whether the player been transferred is in conformity with the regulations in force? "That is why all our players’ names were found on the official list prepared by Fecafoot", Beyem argued.
Beyond the feud between the two Unions, the homologation committee has suspended four players from today’s matches. They include Kondi and Balouni of AS Douala II, Aboubakary and Koulayon of Pilote Garoua. Ironically, these undisciplined players come from teams with the poorest performances. Pilote is tailing pool B while Douala II is fourth after the third playing day. At club level the most undisciplined team so far is Impots FC of Yaounde. It has to pay CFA 18,000. Douala II will pay CFA 12,000, Pilote Garoua (CFA 10,000), Epervier of Ebolowa (CFA 6,000), Douala and Abong Mbang (CFA 2,000 each).
