Interpool Fever Grips Buea
Matches of the second playing day in Pool B, Buea, takes place today.
As teams in Pool B continue overhauling their engines for today’s encounters, Buea town is gaining the supposed ambiance that goes with football jamborees. The atmosphere is warm. Drinking places appear much busier than usual, hawkers of sweets, groundnuts, biscuits and any other attractive goods can be seen hovering around the various residents of players. The Interpools village (headquarters) at OIC is the heart of several activities under the supervision of Prince Ndoki Mukete. The talk of the day in Buea remains the Interpools.
After the first three matches Sunday, the recess period offered an opportunity for teams in Pool A to revise their working methods. The matches of the first playing day set the pace of the tournament. Some of the actors who came with their shoulders high, have realised that they must work harder to keep their dreams afloat. Reference is much more on the Union Abong Mbang and Epervier match, more because of the excitement which it generated.
Union Abong Mbang led its opponent, Epervier 2 — 0 until the last minutes of the second half. The team from the East province was however unable to manage the lead as Epervier drew level before the end of the encounter. It is therefore understandable why Union Abong Mbang have been working round the clock. They resumed training early Monday leaking their wounds of carelessness. In the same light, Union Douala also attempted a high hand on Douala Deuxieme until 15 minutes to full time when luck befell them as they sent home the curtain raiser, the only goal of the encounter. Officials of Union Douala say they have come to realise that no team has come to Buea for tourism.
The neatness of the players dressed by MTN has equally been appreciated by spectators who gave a special ovation to the teams before match kick-off. Although playing in their usual colours, the teams have the MTN logo on the chest of their new jerseys.
