Coton Sport become league leaders
Martin Etonge
The Northern giants, Coton Sport Garoua have confirmed their excellent form this season by defeating hitherto unbeaten Astres Douala.
In a day eight action in Douala on Monday, Coton Sport completely humiliated Astres 3-1. The win also enabled Coton Sport to take over the command baton of the league from Astres.
But with 20 points Coton Sport are just one ahead of Astres, who have certainly not abandoned the pursuit for the title yet.
Astres keep a comfortable three-point gap ahead of third place club Sahel Maroua. Sahel, another newcomers like Astres, recorded one of the best results on Monday when they beat Tonnerre in Yaounde 1-0.
Against the run of play, Sahel performed the essential. Denis Mboudgui netted in five minutes to full time.
Sahel pushed Sable Batie down to fourth position, thanks also to Sable’s 1-2 defeat to Fovu Baham. And Fovu came closer to Sable, to stand fifth, separated by just a point.
Hitherto bottom placed Union Douala bettered their position with a 3-1 win over visiting PWD Bamenda. It was Union’s second win in the season as the club struggle to find their feet.
Union have 6 points, like Tonnerre Yaounde and KSA Douala who lost 0-1 to University in Ngaoundere. Foudre Akonolinga defeated Racing Bafoussam one-nil at home, just like Mount Cameroon over Bamboutos Mbouda.
The performance of newcomers Aigle Dschang has drastically improved as they took another nice 2-0 win over Esperance Guider. Aigle have 8 points at the 9th position.
