Morocco coach resigns (18.10.2005)
Badou Zaki has quit his post as manager of Morocco`s national team.
The decision of the former international goalkeeper follows the failure of the Atlas Lions to qualify for next year`s World Cup.
"After all the hard work he had done for the national team and in the face of stiff competition at next year`s African Nations Cup in Egypt, he preferred to resign," said Moroccan Football Federation spokesman Hamed Amor.
Zaki`s side
were unbeaten during the group stages of the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, the only African team to achieve the feat.
But Morocco`s failure to beat Tunisia, in their final qualifier in Tunis, enabled the African champions to snatch the ticket.
Zaki, who kept goal for Morocco at the 1986 World Cup finals, took over the side in 2003.
He led the Lions to last year`s African Cup of Nations final, their first time in 28 years.
