Ari Haan commissioned in Yaounde (26.08.2006)
New Cameroon head coach Ari Haan and assistant Theo De Jong have officially assumed duties.
After signing a two-year deal, the new technical staffs were Friday evening commissioned by Sports and Physical Education minister, Philippe Mbarga Mboa, one week following their appointment.
The contract was signed by Ari Haan, FECAFOOT President Mohammed Iya and the minister, to guarantee government commitment, under the watchful eyes of the Dutch Ambassador to Cameroon, N W M Braakhuis.
Ari Haan’s main mission is to qualify Cameroon for the 2008 African Cup of Nations finals and ‘win it’, the minister said. It is only after achieving this mission the option of a renewal will be considered.
Besides the main mission Ari Haan will have to look into the development of youth football, training of trainers and ensure

that home based players have a full chance to join the Indomitable Lions.
“In Cameroon there are 17 million coaches, so you have to prove to them that you had the job because you are the best of them all”, the minister told Ari Haan, as he insisted that the Indomitable Lions needed success.
“We need a solid, disciplined and conquering national team”, Mbarga Mboa added.
As an accomplished coach, Ari Haan was urged to bring all his experience into Cameroon. The minister promised that there will be no interference from the ministry and FECAFOOT in Ari Haan’s job, for was the sole boss.
Ari Haan’s first challenge is on the 1st September when Cameroon play against Rwanda in the 2008 African Cup of nations qualifier in Kigali. Ahead of that game, the team will camp in Nairobi Kenya, beginning on the 29th August.
