Lazare Adingono Selected to Lead Cameroon National Team (18.08.2007)

The assistant coach on Tom Parrotta`s staff will be a head coach at the 2007 FIBA Africa Championships.
Lazare Adingono (right), an assistant with the Canisius College men’s basketball program, has been called upon to serve as the head coach of the Cameroon National Basketball Team at the FIBA Africa Championships, which started Aug. 16, at five different sites in the country of Angola.
Adingono will lead a team of 11 players into the 16-team tournament, with the winning team securing a spot in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. One of the players on Adingono’s roster is UCLA forward Alfred Aboya, who has played in 68 games over the last two seasons for the nationally-ranked Bruins. Mozambique,South Africa and Tunisia in a round-robin format. From there, the top two teams in each of the event’s four groups will advance to the quarterfinal round, which is slated to begin Aug. 21.
“What a great opportunity and honor to be able to lead your country on such a grand stage,” Canisius head coach Tom Parrotta said. “We all share in coach Adi’s excitement as he is not only representing our basketball program, but Canisius College as a whole. We will all be watching the scores very closely.”
The native of Yaounde, Cameroon, Adingono was a member of the Cameroon National Team before coming to the United States and beginning his collegiate basketball career. He was a four-year letterwinner at Rhode Island and was a team captain for the Rams during 2002-03 season when the team earned an NIT berth. Adingono played professionally with the Gallos De Pelea in Juarez, Mexico, and earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Rhode Island in 2004.
