Kameni dropped for vital clash (31.08.2005)
Goalkeeper Idriss Carlos Kameni has been dropped from Cameroon`s squad for Sunday`s crunch World Cup qualifier against the Ivory Coast in Abidjan. The Espanyol keeper was adjudged the best in Spain`s Liga last season but was left out of the squad after missing a recent training camp in France.
Kameni has been replaced by new Panathinaikos signing Pierre Ebede Owono, although Turkish-based keeper Souleymanou Hamidou is likely to start the African zone Group Three match.
Cameroon coach Artur Jorge has recalled Paris St Germain midfielder Modest Mbami, who has not played for the Indomitable Lions this year after a row with previous coach Winfried Schaefer.
Cameroon need to beat the Ivory Coast away to ensure any realistic chance of a fifth successive World Cup finals appearance.
