Kameni to snub United (21.10.2004)
Manchester United target Carlos Kameni insists he has no plans to quit Espanyol during the January transfer window.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is in the market for a new goalkeeper as neither Tim Howard nor Roy Carroll has impressed the Scot enough to stake a regular claim on the No1 jersey.
Kameni is amongst the names linked with a move to Old Trafford in January and the Red Devils have sent representatives to watch the Cameroon stopper on three occasions this season.
Ferguson dispatched goalkeeping coach Tony Coton to watch the 19-year-old in action against Barcelona on Saturday and even though Espanyol lost, the youngster is believed to have delivered another eye-catching display.
The
African, who had a trial with Bolton in the summer before joining the Spanish outfit from Le Havre, admits he is aware of interest from the Premiership giants, but intends to see out his contract at the Olimpico Montjuic, which will run until 2006.
Kameni told AS: "No club or intermediary has called me, but I have heard things about the possibility that Manchester wants me.
"If they do come to me, I will say to them that I do not want to go away.
"I am a player of Espanyol, I left my previous club to play and for that reason I will remain here."
Kameni came close to signing for Wolves last season, but he was denied the chance to ply his trade in England`s top-flight due to work-permits issues.
