Successful Surgery on Eto’o Fils (03.09.2007)
The surgery was performed on his right thigh last Saturday.
The spirit maybe strong but the body is weak. This is can be said to be what is happening to the Cameroonian star striker, Samuel Eto’o. After a knee injury that kept him off the pitch for five months last football season, the Cameroon striker, Samuel Eto`o, who plays for Barcelona, has again sustained another injury which doctors say, is going to keep him off the football field for three months. The player partially tore his thigh tendon during a friendly against Inter Milan last Wednesday. Eto’o underwent a surgery on his right thigh last Saturday September 1, and will leave the hospital today and have 10 days of complete rest.
Doctor Ramon Cugat, who performed an hour-long operation on Eto`o, said the striker couldn`t resume training for "at

least two months". Cugat, the same doctor who performed the surgery on Eto’o’s right knee, said surgery was necessary because the muscle bore most weight when a player took a shot. "A professional player cannot risk this muscle. Without it, he cannot function properly," Cugat said.
He is likely to miss virtually all the Champions League group stage as they face Lyon, Stuttgart and Rangers in Group E. However, the three-time African player of the year, who helped his club side to their championship titles in 2005 and 2006, may not be missed by his club which has panoply of strikers this year. His absence also solves Coach Frank Rijkaard`s selection headache for a while. Rijkaard has the task this season of deciding between a quartet of top forwards - Eto`o, Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and recent signing Thierry Henry.
