Samuel Eto`o was the top scorer of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations after the Cameroon hot-shot fired in five goals during the tournament in Ghana.
The Barcelona hitman scored a brace in two Group C matches against Sudan and Egypt as well as converting one of his three tournament penalties in a 5-1 defeat of Zambia.
Though Eto`o could not lead the Indomitable Lions to victory in the final against Egypt, the 26-year-old became the Nations Cup all-time record goalscorer in Ghana, extending his overall tally to 15 from five competitions.
The competition for the top scorer of 2008 went down to final game with Mohamed Aboutrika, Amr
Zaki and Hosni Abd Rabou of Egypt all finishing just one goal behind Eto`o.
Aboutrika scored his fourth of the event to seal the Pharaohs` 1-0 victory over Camerooon in the final.
Hosny Abd Rabou, who was voted the tournament`s best player, came close to equalling Eto`o when he hit the post from a Ahmed Hassan cross in the Accra finale.
Zaki weighed in with two strikes in the Pharaohs` 4-1 win over hotly-tipped Ivory Coast in the semi-finals, while three of Abd Rabou`s have come from converted penalties.
Manchester United`s new Angolan wonderkid, Manucho, scored four for the Palancas Negras, after he emerged onto the African stage in some style in Ghana.
Hopes of Ivory Coast`s Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou taking the golden boot faded on Saturday when the pair failed to score during their team`s 4-2 defeat to Ghana in the third/fourth place play-off.
The competition set a new record of 99 goals scored, beating the previous tally of 92 set in Burkina Faso in 1998.
