N´Diefi claims Wolves approach (30.07.2003)
CAMEROON international striker Pius N´Diefi claims he has received an approach from Premiership new boys Wolves. Dave Jones was frustrated in a bid to sign Modeste M´Bami from Sedan, with the African midfielder instead opting for Paris Saint Germain, but the Molineux manager has now showed an interest in M´Bami´s club and international colleague.
N´Diefi sprung to prominence with the well-taken winning goal in the Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in Lyon this summer. He was previously a member of his country´s 2002 World Cup squad.
With Sedan relegated, the 28-year-old is keen to quit the club, even though he only signed a new three-year contract last year.
"I have some keys (to a
departure)," he declared. "I am patient.
"Lille and Monaco follow me and I have an equal contact with England.
"Wolverhampton approached me recently.
"For the moment, the directors of these clubs contacted my agent, and I hope they will make serious offers to Sedan.
"I have two years left on my contract but hope president (Pascal) Urano allows me to leave.
"I cross my fingers that I will depart."
Wolves are also one of a long list of admirers of N´Diefi´s Sedan pal Henri Camara, and could look to make a double swoop.
Camara has a number of other suitors, including Leeds United and clubs in France, but the Premiership newcomers are now favourites to seal his signature.
