Ndo out for season (05.10.2004)
Shelbourne`s eircom League title run-in has hit a snag with Joseph Ndo being ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.
The Cameroon midfielder has been troubled by the injury for some time and has not played since September 24 when he limped out of the 4-1 win over Shamrock Rovers.
Now Ndo has been told he requires surgery to alleviate the problem and he will play no further part in Shels’ quest to retain their Premier Division title.
The champions Shelbourne can open up an 11-point lead at the top of the table if they beat Derry City tonight at Tolka Park (7.45) but manager Pat Fenlon will also be without defender Kevin Doherty with a hamstring problem.
While Shels are looking to widen
their advantage at the top of the table, Derry are just as eager for points given their precarious position one place off the bottom.
Derry are nine points above Dublin City with a game in hand and will also be looking to bounce back from their FAIreland Cup semi-final defeat to Waterford United at the Brandywell on Friday night.
A penalty shoot-out victory over Shels in a previous round of the cup will act as inspiration, but Derry manager Stephen Kenny still has injury problems with Sean Hargan, used in an emergency against Waterford despite carrying a foot injury, unlikely to start in Dublin tonight.
Kenny does have frontman Gary Beckett back in contention for a place, though, as he has overcome a hamstring injury.
