Blades in hunt for Levante`s Ze (16.01.2007)
Levante striker Albert Meyong Ze is set to join Premiership side Sheffield United for £2 million. The Cameroon international has become increasingly disillusioned with his lack of first team prospects in La Liga and relishes the opportunity to play in England.
Ze joined Levante in the summer following a successful season at Portuguese club OS Belenenses, where he topped the Liga scoring charts with 17 goals in 26 games.
But the 26-year-old African has found his opportunities limited since his move to Spain and Levante coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro is said to be mulling over a 2.5 million euro (£1.7m) offer from Sheffield United.
Ze told the Spanish press over the weekend: "If I do not play here at
Levante then it would be normal for me to leave because I no not want my chance of playing blocked each Sunday.
"English football is a very attractive option and African players seem to adapt well to the Premier League.
"I await a definitive decision on my future over the next week."
Levante, who have reportedly joined the chase for strikers John Carew and Milan Baros, hope that Blades manager Neil Warnock will increase his offer to meet their £2m valuation of the player.
Before his year at Belenenses, Ze played for Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal for five years, scoring 51 goals in 141 appearances. He finished top scorer in the 2004-05 season but could not stop Vitoria from being relegated.
